Neck Pain
Neck pain is a common complaint that can be caused by a variety of disorders and diseases affecting any tissues in the neck, including nerves, muscles, vertebrae, and the disks between them. Medically, it may range from a minor, temporary condition to a serious, chronic issue. Symptoms can include stiffness, sharp or dull ache, and pain that may radiate to the arms or head. Pain might worsen with movement or be associated with symptoms such as headaches, muscle spasms, or tingling in the extremities, indicating nerve involvement.
Various factors can contribute to neck pain, like poor posture, overuse, trauma, or conditions such as cervical degenerative disc disease, arthritis, or spinal stenosis. Diagnosis typically involves a medical history review, physical examination, and possibly imaging tests like X-rays, MRI, or CT scans to determine the underlying cause. Treatment depends on the diagnosis and may range from rest, physical therapy, medication, to surgery in severe cases. Preventative measures include maintaining good posture, regular exercise, and ergonomic adjustments in daily activities.
